Pain in the Dancer: What do dance educators need to know? Presented by Linda S. Bluestein, M.D.

A one-day workshop presented by Linda S. Bluestein, M.D., an integrative pain management physician and former dancer who has written and lectured extensively on chronic pain issues as they relate to dancers.

Aims

On completion of the workshop you will have an increased understanding of:

  • the differences between acute, subacute and chronic pain and the most common causes in the dancer.
  • hypermobility disorders – what they are, why dance educators have a unique opportunity to improve the health of the dancer, how to perform an assessment of hypermobility, how to educate the dancer so as to maximize flexibility safely.
  • the importance of optimal nutrition in pain management, identify the role of various foods and nutrients.
  • common mental health concerns, how to identify the dancer in distress.
